Our Lady of Carmen is the common name that usually receives Santa Maria del Monte Carmel, one of the various advocations of the Virgin Mary. Its name comes from its veneration on Mount Carmel, in the Holy Land, near Haifa.. The veneration of this Marian advocation has been spread in the world by the Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, called Carmelites. In Spain, Puerto Rico and Costa Rica she is patron of the sea, she is also patron of the Spanish Navy.This advocation gives its name to all those named Carmen, Carmela or Carmelo, and who celebrate their onomastics in the feast of Our Lady of Carmen, on July 16, which the Catholic Church commemorates with quality of optional memory.
