- The Virgin of the Pilar is a Marian advocation of the Catholic Church, whose image has its main center of worship in the Basilica of the Pillar of Zaragoza (Spain). On May 20, 1642 the municipality of Zaragoza proclaimed the Virgin of the Patron Pillar of the city, patronsaint who spread to the entire Kingdom of Aragon in the Aragonese Courts of 1678. It accumulates other patronages, such as the Civil Guard Corps, Post and Telegraph Corps, and the Spanish Navy's Underwater Weapon. The legend about its origins dates back to the year 40, when, according to the Christian tradition, on 2 January the Virgin Mary appeared to St. James the Apostle
